In January 2024,the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council launched a new round of degree authorization review,including the application and approval of autonomous review units of degree authorization.The review of this degree authorization is related to whether China's law schools,especially key universities of political science and law,can better serve the national development strategy by autonomously setting up disciplines and majors urgently needed by nation.To accelerate the construction of a legal discipline system with Chinese characteristics,it is necessary to liberate the mind,break away from the inherent thinking of valuing science and engineering over humanities and law,revise and improve the basic requirements for application for autonomous review units,grant high-level political science and law universities the autonomy to review and award doctoral degree disciplines,and provide strong policy and institutional guarantees for better playing the backbone and exemplary role of key universities of political science and law in legal education and research.
