CT application in the selection of methods of maxillary sinus cystectomy
Objective To evaluate the effect of CT of sinuses in the selection of surgical strategies for maxillary sinus cystectomy. Methods The medical records of 80 patients with maxillary sinus cysts (90 sinuses) from March 2018 to March 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Before surgery, sinus CT examination and interpretation were performed. After classification according to different origins of cysts, corresponding surgical approaches were used to excise the lesions. Results The sinus CT analysis showed that the cysts originated from 21 sinuses on the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus,in the upper wall of 8 sinuses,1 in the bottom wall,25 in the medial wall, and 17 in the lateral wall. 26 enlarging the natural ostium of maxillary sinus route were applied. Inferior meatal fenestration route were applied to 20 sinus, anterior lacrimal recess route were in 44 sinus. All operations achieved total resection without postoperative bleeding, epiphora, anterior nostril stenosis and other complications. There was no recurrence during follow-up. Conclusion Preoperative sinus CT to identify the origin of cyst can provide an important basis for the selection of appropriate surgical approach.
