Professor LI Junxiang's insights on herbal pairs for treating functional dyspepsia
Functional dyspepsia(FD)is a common clinical disease characterized by recurrent and persistent ep-igastric pain,burning sensation in the epigastrium,and early and post-prandial satiety,imposing psychological burden to the patients and reducing their quality of life.According to traditional Chinese medicine,FD has similar-ities with the diagnosis and treatment of distention and fullness,and the reversal of Qi in the middle is an impor-tant pathological manifestation of FD.Professor LI Junxiang inherited Academician Dong Jianhua's"Tongjiang theory"of the spleen and stomach and developed the"Tai Chi's ascending and descending thinking".Starting from the physiological state of the body's Qi movement,regulating Qi to promote its flow is the key way to treating this disease.This approach is based on the pathological characteristics of the spleen and stomach's dysfunction and Qi congestion.Professor LI Junxiang applied the herbs of Yujin and Xiangfu to"clearing heat from the liver","har-monizing stomach for descending adverse Qi",and used the medicines of Zhebeimu and Pugongying to"inhibiting acid regurgitation and dissipating phlegm".Modern pharmacological studies have shown that Yujin-Xiangfu and Zhebeimu-Pugongying can improve gastrointestinal vitality and regulate gastrointestinal function to a certain ex-tent.Flexible use of these drugs in FD treatment has been found to improve clinical efficacy.
