Analysis on the Application of Acrid Cough Relieving Drugs in the Classic Formuls of Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica
In the Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica,there are 12 drugs that belong to acrid herbs and have cough relieving effects,and 8 drugs are used in the Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases.By an-alyzing the efficacy of these 12 drugs and the application of the 13 cough relieving classic formulas,and combin-ing the five flavors theory in the Inner Canon of Huangdi,the mechanism and characteristics of using acrid herbs to relieve cough are explored.The paper suggests that:1)on the basis of"regulating cough and adverse reactions"by the acrid cough relieving drugs,other drugs with the special effects such as"regulating throat obstruction"by common coltsfoot flower,"invigorating spleen-stomach and replenishing qi"by cassia twig,and"regulating water flow"by lilac daphne flower bud should be added to achieve cough relieving.2)The compatibility rule of acrid to relieve cough includes"Xin San Suan Shou",and the basic drug pairs are Ganjiang-Xixin-Wuweizi,which can be adjusted according to different causes,such as Shengjiang-Xixin-Wuweizi,Ganjiang-Xixin-Wuweizi-Banxia,and Ganjiang-Wuweizi;"Xin Gan Fa San",and the basic drug pairs are Shengjiang-Gancao or Ganjiang-Gancao;"Xin San Ku Jiang",and the basic drug pairs are Kuandonghua-Ziyuan,Guizhi-Mahuang,Banxia-Shaoyao,or Fuzi-Shaoyao.3)The essence of acrid for moistening runs through the entire process of using acrid herbs to re-lieve cough,and on this basis,apply acrid herbs to also cure superficies attacked by exogenous pathogen;when yang deficiency leads to stagnation of the body,the acrid herbs are used to warm it up;when pathogenic fluid not transforming,one should reconcile it with acrid herbs.
