Exploring the Treatment of Severe Pneumonia from Intestinal Theory
The interrelation between the lung and large intestine is one of the many manifestations of the holis-tic perspective in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),providing significant guidance for clinical diagnosis and treatment. This paper explores the understanding of severe pneumonia from both TCM and western medicine per-spectives;examines the mutual influences between the lung and large intestine in terms of pathology and physiolo-gy;and reviews modern research on lung-intestine correlation, aiming to treat severe pneumonia from the perspec-tives of treating the large intestine to benefit the lung and integrated lung-intestine treatment.Treatment strategies include the use of Dachaihu Decoction and Huanglian Jiedu Decoction to clear heat and regulate the bowels;Max-ing Shigan Decoction and Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction to clear the lung and smooth qi;and Yupingfeng Powder and Guizhi jia Longgu Muli Decoction to tonify the lung and astringe the intestines, cultivating the earth to generate metal. The principle of integrated lung-intestine treatment under the theory of the lung and large intestine as exter-nal and internal organs avoids the conventional pattern of treating lung diseases by focusing solely on the lung and intestinal diseases by focusing solely on the intestine, offering a TCM perspective to support the treatment of se-vere pneumonia.
