Analysis of TCM Syndrome Elements in Severe Pneumonia Complicated with Acute Gastrointestinal Dysfunction
Objective:To investigate the distribution of syndrome elements and patterns in patients with severe pneumonia complicated by acute gastrointestinal dysfunction, providing a reference for the diagnosis and treatment of this condition in TCM clinical practice. Methods:A retrospective collection of 82 patients with severe pneumo-nia complicated by acute gastrointestinal dysfunction who were hospitalized at Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2022 to May 2024 was conducted.Clinical data of the patients were collected, and the corresponding syndrome elements were extracted using a syndrome element scale. The TCM syndrome patterns were determined based on the syndrome elements, and the data were statistically analyzed to summarize the charac-teristics of the distribution of TCM syndrome elements and patterns in the patients. Results:The main disease lo-cation syndrome elements in patients with severe pneumonia complicated by acute gastrointestinal dysfunction were concentrated in the lung and large intestine, with no significant statistical differences among the groups(P>0.05).The main disease nature syndrome elements were concentrated in phlegm, heat, and dampness.Yin deficien-cy syndrome elements were more frequent in patients over 80 years old and in deceased patients(P<0.05).Syn-drome elements of water retention and blood stasis were significantly more frequent in deceased patients compared with survivors.Syndrome of excessive fu-viscera caused by lung-heat was the most common TCM syndrome pat-tern.Conclusion:The main disease locations in patients with severe pneumonia complicated by acute gastrointes-tinal dysfunction are the lung and large intestine, involving multiple sites such as the small intestine,spleen,stom-ach,and heart-mind.Phlegm,heat,and dampness are the primary pathogenic factors of this disease. The presence of yin deficiency syndrome elements in patients over 80 years old and in deceased patients may indicate poor prog-nosis.Syndrome of excessive fu-viscera caused by lung-heat is the most common TCM syndrome pattern in this condition.
