Exploring the Application of Wind-dispelling Chinese medicines in Ophthalmic Dis-eases Based on the Xuan-fu Theory
Ophthalmic diseases often manifest with minimal systemic symptoms at the onset, particularly in the case of diseases affecting the fundus of the eye. This poses a challenge for clinicians,as traditional Eight Principles diagnostic theory may prove inadequate in discerning symptoms. The Xuan-fu theory,as a distinctive diagnostic and therapeutic approach, offers a new perspective for the clinical management of eye diseases.Due to the elevated position of the eyes, conventional medications may fall short in reaching the target, whereas wind-dispelling Chinese medicines possess the ability to ascend lightly and reach the eyes directly.Serving as commonly used agents in the Xuan-fu theory, these Chinese medicines play a crucial role in the treatment of eye diseases. This article, based on the Xuan-fu theory, summarizes the pathogenic patterns of ophthalmic diseases.By combining the physiological characteristics of wind-dispelling Chinese medicines,it explores the experiential application of these Chinese medicines in ophthalmology. The article proposes that wind-dispelling Chinese medicines, through their actions of dispelling wind, clearing heat, eliminating dampness, moistening dryness, and soothing the spirit, can eliminate the pathological products causing stagnation in the eyes. This helps regulate the circulation of Qi and blood in the eyes, facilitating the unobstructed flow of the Xuan-fu channel.Consequently,it restores the function of the eyes, promoting the recovery of visual acuity, and exhibits a unique therapeutic effect in treating both internal and external eye disorders. The aim is to provide new theoretical insights for clinicians applying wind-dispelling Chinese medicines in the treatment of ophthalmic diseases.
