Research Progress on Traditional Chinese Medicine Regulating the Expression of VEGF for the Intervention of Diabetic Retinopathy
Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)can stimulate the growth and prolifera-tion of endothelial cells, induce migration, enhance vascular permeability, and induce neovascular-ization.Its abnormal levels are significantly correlated with the progression of diabetic retinopathy(DR).In recent years, with the development and progress of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in preventing and treating DR,the advantages of its multi-target and multi-pathway regulation of VEGF expression have received widespread attention. This article, through reviewing and summa-rizing relevant literature, found that TCM intervenes in DR by targeting VEGF expression mainly through effective components in Chinese medicines such as chlorogenic acid, piperine, arctiin, and Chinese patent medicines like Shuangdan Mingmu Capsule,Qiming Granules, and Yougui Pills.Additionally,TCM formulas such as Buyang Huanwu Decoction,Qiju Dihuang Decoction, and Danhuang Mingmu Decoction,as well as acupuncture combined with Chinese medicines, are employed. This study summarizes the relationship between VEGF and DR and reviews the re-search progress of TCM in treating DR by inhibiting VEGF expression, aiming to provide reference for the clinical prevention and treatment of DR.
