Research Progress on Risk Factors and Treatment of Recurrence after Pterygium Sur-gery
Pterygium,a common and recurrent ocular disease, poses a significant challenge postoperatively, with recurrence being a prevalent issue.Multiple recurrences can lead to severe complications such as eyelid adhesions, conjunctival sac stenosis, and restricted eye movement. In recent years, the recurrence of pterygium after surgery has gradually become a focus of attention among ophthalmologists. This article systematically reviews the risk factors for pterygium recur-rence,including systemic and ocular risk factors,pterygium-related factors, molecular biology,ge-netics,pathogenic microorganisms, and other related factors.Furthermore,it elucidates treatment strategies to reduce the recurrence of pterygium after surgery, encompassing choices of surgical techniques, adjunctive medications, physical therapy approaches,Traditional Chinese Medicine strategies, and more. This study aims to provide valuable insights for ophthalmologists in clinical practice to prevent pterygium recurrence.
