Textual Analysis of Zhujing Pills in the Chinese Medical Canon
OBJECTIVE To compile the components,indications,and effects of Zhujing Pills in the Chinese Medical Canon.METHODS Textual excerpts containing Zhujing Pills or related content from ancient medical texts within the Chinese Medical Canon were included.After standardizing the names of Chinese medicines,prescription names,Chinese medicines compositions,indications,effects,and sources were entered into an Excel 2016 software to establish a database for subsequent analysis.RESULTS(1)General information:A total of 24 ancient texts were retrieved,comprising 30 relevant excerpts.Among these,there were 26 records of Zhujing Pills,two of Zhujing Yuan,one record of Zhujing Pills(驻京丸),one of Plantago Asiatica Pills.(2)Chinese medicines composition:A total of fifteen different prescriptions of Zhujing Pills were identified,all primarily featuring Semen Cuscutae and Plantago Asiatica as core ingredients.(3)Indications and effects:The main indications included simultaneous liver and kidney deficiency,persistent dim vision,frequent floaters,unclear vision,and tearing in windy conditions.The main effects were tonifying liver and kidneys,improving vision.CONCLUSIONS The compositions and dosages of Zhujing Pills varied across different ancient texts.Semen Cuscutae and Plantago Asiatica were consistent core ingredients,with Rehmannia glutinosa being an important constituent.Primarily targeting internal ocular diseases associated with liver and kidney deficiencies,such as persistent dim vision,Zhujing Pills showcased their efficacy.
