ZHANG Fengmei's Experience in Treating Retinal Vein Occlusion with"Phlegm-Dampness Constitution"
Retinal vein occlusion(RVO)is a condition where retinal vein thrombosis is caused by various factors, leading to impaired blood flow.It is characterized by the dilation and tortuosity of retinal veins, retinal hemorrhage, edema, and other symptoms, which can adversely affect a patient's vision and even lead to blindness. As one of the most common retinal vascular diseases,RVO primarily affects middle-aged and elderly individuals, with a high incidence and poor prognosis.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)categorizes RVO under the domains of"blood stasis"and"collateral damage leading to sudden blindness."TCM believes that factors such as Qi,fire,phlegm-dampness,and blood stasis are the main pathological factors contributing to the development of RVO.Guided by the theory of constitution,ZHANG Fengmei specializes in applying the"constitution differentiation-disease differentiation-syndrome differentiation"diagnostic and treatment model to address RVO.She believes that the occurrence of RVO is closely related to the phlegm-dampness constitution. This article begins with the"phlegm-dampness constitution"and summarizes ZHANG Fengmei's experience in treating RVO using methods aimed at resolving phlegm, eliminating dampness, and dispelling blood stasis.
