Clinical Experience of WANG Donghong's Auricular Point Therapy in Treating Peri-menopausal Dry Eye Disease
Perimenopausal dry eye disease(PDED)is one of the common types of dry eye in clinical practice.Women in the perimenopausal period have a decrease in estrogen and progesterone levels, which can easily cause disharmony of the viscera and organs from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, thus affecting the generation and operation of Yang Qi.The ears are closely related to the meridians and organs.Through auricular therapy,it can warm and nourish Yang Qi,regulate the functions of the organs, and promote the production and distribution of essence, blood, and body fluids,so that they can moisten the eyes and improve the symptoms of PDED such as dryness, foreign body sensation, burning sensation, photophobia, blurred vision, and visual fatigue.WANG Donghong believes that the core pathogenesis of PDED is deficiency of kidney Yang, deficiency of liver blood, and lack of nourishment for the eyes.Deficiency of Yang Qi is the main pathogenic factor. She often uses her self-developed auricular therapy(ear acupressure, acupuncture, point compression, pressure pill)to treat this disease and achieve good results. In auricular therapy, she especially emphasizes the effect of Du meridian on the ear conch,so as to warm Yang Qi and promote Qi and blood circulation, providing new ideas, new methods, and new technologies for clinical treatment of PDED.
