A Preliminary Discussion of SUN He's Academic Thoughts on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Primary Glaucoma
Primary glaucoma refers to a type of severe eye disease characterized by elevated intraocular pressure accompanied by optic nerve damage. In Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),it falls under the category of"Five Wind Internal Obstruction".Current Western Medicine treatments often involve controlling intraocular pressure and improving tissue blood supply.TCM approaches the condition through the perspective of liver, kidney,Qi,blood, and meridians. However, the gradual decline in vision and visual field defects have become primary challenges to be addressed.SUN He believes that the pathological position of this disease lies in liver. The stagnation of liver Qi leads to meridian blockages, affecting nourishment of organ apertures, resulting in gradual emergence of various symptoms.Subsequently, other organs and meridians are affected.Treatment primarily focuses on promoting liver circulation, opening the apertures, and enhancing vision. It also includes the methods to clear heat, cool blood, nourish Yin,and alleviate pain, aiming to harmonize the overall balance of Yin and Yang,Qi,blood, and the coordination of organs, meridians, and collaterals.Through studying under a mentor, the author has observed and summarized SUN He's dialectical thinking and treatment characteristics for primary glaucoma, hoping to provide new insights and guidance for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases in the future.
