Observation of the Therapeutic Efficacy of Tuiyi Mingmu Decoction in Combination with Surgery for Active Pinguecula
OBJECTIVE To observe the clinical efficacy of Tuiyi Mingmu Decoction in combination with surgery for treating active pinguecula.METHODS A total of 98 patients(98 eyes)with pinguecula treated at Baoji Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from June 2018 to June 2021 were randomly divided into an experimental group(EG)and a control group(CG),with 49 patients(49 eyes)in each group.The control group received pinguecula excision combined with autologous limbal stem cell transplantation.The experimental group received Tuiyi Mingmu Decoction in addition to the treatment administered in the control group.Both groups were observed for four weeks.Visual parameters,including astigmatism,corneal vertical and horizontal curvatures,tear film break-up time(BUT),and SchirmerⅠ test(SⅠT)were assessed before and after treatment.RESULTS Comparison of astigmatism,corneal vertical and horizontal curvatures,BUT,and SⅠT between the two groups showed no significant differences before treatment(all P>0.05).(1)Astigmatism:After treatment,both groups had a significant reduction in astigmatism(tEG=59.561,tCG=42.619,both P=0.000).The post-treatment astigmatism in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group(t= 17.919,P=0.000),with a statistically significant difference.(2)Corneal vertical curvature:After treatment,both groups demonstrated a significant increase in corneal vertical curvature compared to before treatment(tEG=21.819,tCG=9.284,both P=0.000).The post-treatment corneal vertical curvature in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group(t=13.831,P=0.000),with a statistically significant difference.(3)Corneal horizontal curvature:After treatment,both groups had a significant increase in corneal horizontal curvature compared to before treatment(tEG= 21.052,tCG=15.903,both P=0.000).The post-treatment corneal horizontal curvature in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group(t=11.241,P=0.000),with a statistically significant difference.(4)BUT:After treatment,both groups showed a significant extension in BUT compared to before treatment(tEG=14.672,tCG=8.537,both P=0.000).The post-treatment BUT in the experimental group was longer than that in the control group(t=5.015,P= 0.000),with a statistically significant difference.(5)SⅠT:After treatment,both groups had a significant increase in SⅠT compared to before treatment(tEG=7.781,tCG=5.426,both P=0.000).There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in SⅠT after treatment(P>0.05).(6)Complication rate:The complication rate of experimental group was lower than the control group's rate,with a statistically significant difference(χ2=4.782,P=0.029).CONCLUSIONS Tuiyi Mingmu Decoction combined with surgery in the treatment of pterygium is beneficial to improve the tear film function of patients,reduce corneal astigmatism,and complications.
