OBJECTIVE To evaluate the diagnostic and management value of optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)in patients with retinitis pigmentosa(RP)through Meta-analysis.METHODS Relevant literature on RP patients using OCTA was searched in PubMed,Embase,CNKI,Wanfang,VIP,and CBM databases from inception to September 30th,2023.Central foveal avascular zone(FAZ)area, vascular density(VD)of superficial capillary plexus(SCP)and deep capillary plexus(DCP),and choriocapillaris VD were selected as outcome measures.Statistical analysis was performed using Stata 15.0 software.RESULTS(1)Included studies:A total of 18 studies were included, comprising 500 RP patients(695 eyes)in the RP group and 458 healthy control patients(546 eyes)in the control group.(2)FAZ area:The FAZ area in both SCP and DCP layers was larger in the RP group than in the healthy control group, with statistically significant differences[SCP layer:WMD=0.100,95%CI(0.063,0.136),Z=5.320,P=0.000.DCP layer:WMD=0.162,95%CI(0.069,0.255),Z=3.400,P= 0.001].(3)Retinal microcirculation:The VD of SCP and DCP layers in the macula, central fovea, parafoveal region, and peripheral area were lower in the RP group than in the healthy control group, with statistically significant differences(all P<0.05).(4)Choriocapillaris microcirculation:The overall VD and parafoveal VD in the RP group were lower than those in the healthy control group, with statistically significant differences[overall VD:WMD=-2.383,95%CI(-4.152,-0.614),Z=2.640,P=0.000;Parafoveal VD:WMD=-3.177,95%CI(-4.956,-1.398),Z=3.530,P=0.000].There was no statistically significant difference in central foveal VD between the two groups(P>0.05).CONCLUSIONS OCTA shows good discriminatory ability in detecting FAZ area in SCP and DCP layers,VD in macula, central fovea, parafoveal region, and peripheral area,as well as choriocapillaris VD in RP patients compared to healthy individuals.OCTA holds promise as a reliable tool for diagnosing and managing RP patients.
