ZHI Nan's Academic Ideology and Experience in the Treatment of Diabetic Retinopa-thy
Diabetic retinopathy is one of the common complications of diabetes.Clinically,it is most commonly manifested by decreased vision.Fundoscopic examination may reveal hemorrhages, hard exudates, retinal vascular changes, and microaneurysms. The pathophysiology of this condition is complex, and current clinical treatments in Western Medicine have varying degrees of effectiveness, but none are particularly satisfactory.Professor ZHI Nan,a disciple of academician KONG Sibo, believes that the primary pathogenesis of this condition is related to dysfunction in liver, spleen, and kidney, with damp-heat and blood stasis being the critical core factors. The main treatment principles include soothing liver and regulating Qi,clearing heat and calming liver, tonifying Qi and nourishing Yin,clearing heat and promoting urination, and invigorating blood and resolving stasis. These treatments have shown remarkable effectiveness and are worthy of summarization and promotion.
