Exploring Visual Fatigue Based on the Theory of"Liver and Kidney Sharing the Same Origin
This paper explores the connection between the theory of"liver and kidney sharing the same origin"and visual fatigue.According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, liver stores blood while kidney store essence.Liver is responsible for dispersing and excreting, while kidney are in charge of containing and sealing.Prolonged visual focus or emotional disturbances can lead to stagnation of liver Qi,which transforms into heat and damages liver blood.Similarly, irregular menstruation or loss of essence in men depletes kidney essence and energy. When kidney essence is insufficient to nourish liver blood, and liver blood deficiency fails to nourish the eyes, symptoms of visual fatigue such as eye discomfort, blurred vision, and weakness may manifest. In treatment, acupuncture may use the principle of regulating"blood".Acupoints related to liver and kidney are stimulated to tonify liver and kidney deficiencies, nourishing essence and blood, and guiding Qi and blood to the eyes.Acupoints like Taiyang and Cuanzhu are utilized to facilitate meridian circulation, dispelling stagnant Qi and heat. When using eye acupuncture, points related to liver and kidney are chosen to promote the flow of essence and blood to the eyes, relieving visual fatigue by nourishing liver and kidney.Internal treatments focus on"tonifying the mother when deficient".Remedies that replenish liver and kidney essence and blood, relieve spasm, and alleviate pain, such as the Mushu Pill, are employed to alleviate visual fatigue. This study provides valuable insights and methods for the clinical prevention and treatment of visual fatigue.
