Advantages and Prospects of Combination Therapy with Laser Photocoagulation for Diabetic Retinopathy
Laser photocoagulation is the primary treatment for diabetic retinopathy.Although advancements in laser surgery techniques and energy control have significantly improved clinical efficacy,some studies have shown that retinal laser photocoagulation can cause side effects such as visual field defects and decreased dark adaptation.Intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endo-thelial growth factor(anti-VEGF)medicines can improve patients'vision and the structure of the macular fovea to some extent,but repeated long-term injections impose a significant financial bur-den on patients.In recent years,ophthalmologists have proposed combination therapies with laser photocoagulation to reduce laser-induced side effects while enhancing visual function and clinical efficacy,as well as providing economic benefits.This article reviews the advantages and limita-tions of combining laser photocoagulation with anti-VEGF medicines and Traditional Chinese Medicine compound preparations,aiming to provide a reference for developing effective clinical treatment methods.
