Comparison of the Efficacy of All-digital Myopia Corneal Therapy Lens and Tradi-tional Orthokeratology Lenses in Treating Myopia in Adolescents
OBJECTIVE To compare the clinical efficacy of all-digital myopia corneal therapy lens(AD-MCT)and traditional orthokeratology lenses(T-Ortho-K)in controlling myopia in adolescents.METHODS A total of 160 adolescent myopia patients(320 eyes)who visited Lanzhou Bright Eye Hospital and wore orthokeratology lenses from July 2022 to January 2023 were included and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 80 cases(160 eyes)in each group. The control group wore T-Ortho-K contact lenses, while the observation group wore AD-MCT.Before the treatment, uncorrected distance visual acuity(UCDVA),axial length, and corneal central optical treatment zone diameter of both eyes were measured in both groups. After wearing the lenses for one day and seven days, the UCDVA of both eyes was measured, and the axial length, axial length change value, and corneal central optical treatment zone diameter were measured after one year of treatment.RESULTS There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in UCDVA,axial length,or corneal central optical treatment zone diameter before treatment(P>0.05).(1)UCDVA:In the control group,UCDVA of both right eye(OD)and left eye(OS)significantly improved one day and seven days after wearing the lenses compared to before treatment(one day after treatment:tOD=19.840,tOS=23.682,both P=0.000;seven days after treatment:tOD=44.977,tOS=40.046,both P=0.000).In the observation group, the UCDVA of both eyes significantly improved one day and seven days after wearing the lenses compared to before treatment(one day after treatment:tOD=27.800,tOS=30.789,both P=0.000;seven days after treatment:tOD=38.359,tOS=47.611,both P=0.000).Comparison between the two groups after treatment showed that the UCDVA of both eyes in the observation group significantly improved compared to the control group one day and seven days after treatment(one day after treatment:tOD=5.184,tOS=5.065,both P=0.000;seven days after treatment:tOD=4.498,tOS=4.519,both P=0.000).(2)Axial length and axial length change value:In the control group, the axial length significantly increased after one year of wearing the lenses compared to before treatment(tOD=9.411,tOS=9.796,both P=0.000).In the observation group, the axial length significantly increased after one year of treatment compared to before treatment(tOD=8.125,tOS=5.906,both P=0.000).There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups after treatment(both P>0.05).The axial length change value in the observation group significantly decreased compared to the control group after one year of treatment(tOD=-2.808,P=0.006;tOS=-2.738,P=0.007).(3)Corneal central optical treatment zone diameter:After one year of wearing the lenses, the corneal central optical treatment zone diameter in the observation group significantly decreased compared to the control group(tOD=-7.488,tOS=-10.340,both P=0.000).CONCLUSIONS Both AD-MCT and T-Ortho-k can effectively control the progression of myopia in adolescents. The therapeutic effect of AD-MCT is superior to that of T-Ortho-k,which may be related to its better reduction in corneal central optical treatment zone diameter and control of axial length growth.
