Feasibility Analysis of Traditional Chinese Medicine Conduction Exercise in the Aux-iliary Treatment of Glaucoma
Conduction exercise is one of the external treatment methods in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)and a non-invasive,non-pharmacological therapy. Its health-preserving and disease-preventing principles align with the TCM concept of"preventive treatment of disease".As an adjunctive therapy to pharmacological treatments, conduction exercise warrants attention from clinical practitioners.Glaucoma, characterized by elevated intraocular pressure and optic nerve dysfunction,is a common psychosomatic disorder in ophthalmology.Conduction exercise, which integrates the mind's guidance of Qi,the interaction of form and Qi,and the combination of movement and stillness, can alleviate anxiety, depression, and other negative emotions in glaucoma patients to some extent, thereby improving their sleep quality and overall quality of life.Positive emotions also help stabilize intraocular pressure, potentially slowing disease progression.Additionally, conduction exercise employs physical movements and localized massage to promote the flow of Qi and blood in the eyes, facilitating the opening and closing of the ocular orifices and the circulation of"Shen Shui"(divine water),thereby enhancing the nourishment of the eyes by Qi and blood. This article uses glaucoma as a case study to explore the TCM understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of glaucoma and the theoretical basis for conduction exercise as an adjunctive therapy for glaucoma. It analyzes the feasibility of conduction exercise in treating glaucoma, based on this, explores conduction exercise prescriptions for this condition, aiming to provide new insights into the prevention, health maintenance, and treatment of glaucoma and other emotion-related eye diseases, thereby expanding the clinical application of conduction exercise.
