Research Progress on the Prevention and Control of Mild to Moderate Myopia in Chil-dren Using Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine
As myopia increasingly affects younger populations, the focus of prevention and control efforts should shift toward young children.By reviewing recent studies on the prevention and control of mild to moderate myopia in young children(<11 years old)using integrated Tradi-tional Chinese Medicine(TCM)and Western Medicine(WM),this paper finds that WM interven-tions can moderately control the progression of myopia, but their efficacy is not ideal and they carry risks such as microbial keratitis and corneal ulcers.TCM techniques, including massage, acupuncture, and herbal medicine, offer a green, safe, and relatively stable long-term effect, which can compensate for the limitations of WM approaches and enhance the efficacy and safety of myo-pia prevention and control in young children.
