Theoretical Exploration of Five-tone Therapy Based on the Midnight-noon Ebb-flow Theory for the Treatment of Eyestrain
The midnight-noon ebb-flow theory is a branch of ancient time-based medicine in China, and its combined application with acupuncture,five-tone therapy,or other appropriate techniques can enhance therapeutic effects.Five-tone therapy is a Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)therapy that utilizes five ethnic musical tones—Gong,Shang,Jue,Zhi,and Yu—to treat these diseases based on the"five-element theory"of TCM.Currently,it is mostly used for the treatment of internal diseases accompanied by emotional disturbances. The eyes are closely related to the functions of the viscera and can also be affected by emotions.Research on the application of five-tone therapy in the treatment of ophthalmic diseases is insufficient, and its theoretical foundation still needs further exploration.Eyestrain is a common ophthalmic disease that is often overlooked by patients in the early stages due to mild subjective symptoms, which can progress to refractive errors and further affect vision. This paper systematically discusses the theoretical basis of five-tone therapy based on the midnight-noon ebb-flow theory for the treatment of eyestrain, namely that human physiological states can be influenced by the external natural environment, and there are certain patterns in the changes of vital energy in the viscera within a day.It also briefly introduces the flexible application of Yu-tone to nourish kidney Yin,Zhi-tone to tonify heart blood,Gong-tone to tonify spleen Qi,and Shang-tone to tonify lung Qi to achieve therapeutic goals.Furthermore,it preliminary explores the feasibility of five-tone therapy for the treatment of eyestrain, providing a reference for future clinical applications and related research on the use of five-tone therapy for eyestrain.
