Research Progress on Conjunctival Sac Irrigation for the Prevention of Postoperative Bacterial Endophthalmitis
With the acceleration of population aging in China, the incidence of cataract,glau-coma,and other eye diseases has shown an upward trend in recent years, which has consequently led to an increase in the incidence of postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis.Since the pathogens causing bacterial endophthalmitis mainly originate from the conjunctival sac, preoperative con-junctival sac irrigation has become a necessary step in preventing postoperative bacterial endo-phthalmitis.However,there is no standardized consensus on the type and dosage of conjunctival sac irrigating solutions in clinical practice. This paper reviews the relevant studies on the types and irrigation methods of conjunctival sac irrigating solutions both domestically and internation-ally,finding that the main conjunctival sac irrigating solutions currently used in clinical practice include antibiotic solutions and iodine-based disinfectants, each with its own advantages and limi-tations.Compared to single-agent conjunctival sac irrigation, the combined use of multiple irrigat-ing solutions shows better antibacterial efficacy and has a favorable safety profile. This study aims to provide a reference for clinicians in preventing postoperative endophthalmitis.
