As screws are the implants the most commonly used in orthopedic surgery, their fixation sta-bility significantly impacts treatment outcomes.Screw stripping,a common cause for failure in screw implanta-tion,can reduce screw pullout strength by more than 80%,leading to poor internal fixation or even failure.Al-though there are currently some methods(such as real-time feedback, acoustic emission, etc.)to detect screw stripping, they have not been widely used due to variability of clinical surgery and their technical limitations. This article reviews the biomechanical performance, mechanisms, and factors related to screw stripping, aiming to in-form orthopedic surgeons as to how to prevent stripping during screw implantation.
