Effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on postoperative recurrence of meningioma
Objective To analyze the effect of hyperbaric oxygen on postoperative recurrence of meningioma. Methods A total of 196 patients who were diagnosed pathologically as meningioma and underwent surgical operation at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from January 2011 to January 2019 were followed up.The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to explore the factors of postoperative recurrence of meningioma and the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on postoperative recurrence of meningioma. Results During the follow-up of the 196 patients, eight cases were lost to follow up and 18 cases died. The median follow-up time was[85(68,103)]months.Among the 170 valid follow-up cases,27 cases had meningioma recurrence. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that maximum tumor diameter and pathological subtype were factors influencing tumor recurrence(P<0.05).Whether undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy had no effect on tumor recurrence. The overall survival time of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy group was longer than that of the conventional treatment group(P=0.032).There was no significant difference in the maximum tumor diameter and pathological subtypes between the two groups. In the hyperbaric oxygen therapy group, the age of patient in the recurrence group was significantly higher than that in the non-recurrence group(P=0.028).Conclusion Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has no effect on postoperative recurrence of meningioma, which plays a guiding role in its clinical application.
