Effect of composite oligopeptide powder on the degree of seasickness of polar scientific expedition team members when crossing the westerlies
Objective To explore the effect of oral composite oligopeptide powder on the degree of seasickness of scientific expedition team members on the Chinese polar research vessel Xue Long when crossing the westerlies of the Southern Hemisphere. Methods A total of 30 team members aboard the polar research vessel Xue Long for the 38th expedition were selected and divided into study group and control group, with 15 in each.Observe the effect of orally intake of composite oligopeptide powder and protein powder for five consecutive days on the degree of seasickness among the scientific expedition team members. Results A total of 12 valid questionnaires were collected from the study group and the control group. On the first day of entering the westerlies, more than 50%of the team members reached the degree of seasickness. There was no significant difference in the original score and level of seasickness symptoms between the two groups. After taking composite oligopeptide powder for five days, the original score of seasickness symptoms in the study group decreased from(28.3±6.32)points on the first day of entering the westerlies to(13.5±4.21)points,and the level of seasickness also significantly decreased(P<0.05);after taking an equal amount of protein powder for five days, the original score and level of seasickness symptoms in the control group also decreased, but the change was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusion Most of the scientific expedition team members on the polar research vessel Xue Long experienced obvious seasickness symptoms when entering westerlies. After five consecutive days of intervention with composite oligopeptide powder, the degree of seasickness was significantly reduced, indicating that oligopeptide powder has a certain effect on alleviating seasickness symptoms.
