Effects of short-term intense noise on non-auditory systems of rats with severe deafness
Objective To observe the effects of short-term intense noise on non-auditory systems of rats with normal hearing and with severe deafness. Methods According to the way of intervention,40 SPF Wistar rats were divided into three groups as follows:normal hearing group(n=12),severe deafness group(n=14),and control group(n=14).Rats in the control group did not receive any treatment;rats undergone inner ear surgical modeling in severe deafness group and normal hearing rats were exposed to high intense noise(120 dB white noise,4 h/d,for two consecutive days).Observe the changes in auditory brainstem response(ABR)threshold value, body weight,Complete blood count, blood biochemistry, blood adrenal hormones, and pathological changes in the liver, stomach, kidney, lung, and heart of rats in each group. Results ABR threshold value of rats in normal hearing group was significantly increased after intense noise exposure;ABR threshold value of rats in severe deafness group was significantly increased after modeling;compared with the normal hearing group,ABR threshold value of rats in severe deafness group after intense noise exposure was significantly increased;all differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Weight of rats in both normal hearing group and severe deafness group decreased after intense noise exposure, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).After the noise exposure, compared with the control group and severe deafness group, the value of HB,MCH,PLT,MPV,LYM,LYM%,and MID in the normal hearing group decreased, while the value of NEU increased;but the level of GLU,UA,LDH,CK,serum NE,and CORT decreased. The level of serum NE and CORT in the severe deafness group increased, compared with the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The severe deafness group showed microscopic pathological changes such as liver sinusoidal dilation and inflammatory cell infiltration;mild inflammatory cell infiltration in the lungs;renal glomerular hyperplasia, and desquamation of some renal tubular epithelial cells;no significant pathological changes was observed in the heart and stomach. There was no significant pathological change in the heart, liver, lung, stomach, and kidney of the rats in the normal hearing group. Conclusion After exposure to the short-term intense noise, rats in normal hearing group and severe deafness group showed different changes in peripheral complete blood count, blood biochemical indexes, adrenal hormones, and pathology of important organs. The action route of noise on non-auditory system need further research.
