Forewarned is forearmed:the importance of prevention in the management of pneumonia in the elderly population
With the acceleration of the ageing process in China,pneumonia has become a major burden on the lives of the elderly and the healthcare system.Strengthening the management of pneumonia is of great importance to improve their health status and quality of life.The role of prevention in disease management cannot be overemphasized in many of the national health management plans adopted in our country.The"Expert Consensus on Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Pneumonia in Aged Population in China(2024 Edition)"developed comprehensive prevention strategies,including prevention of aspiration,vaccination recommendation,daily living management and use of immunostimulants,were developed specifically for the high risk factors of pneumonia in the elderly population,while personalized strategies were also formulated for the super-elderly,those with underlying diseases and in the perioperative period.
