Objective To explore the curative effect and mechanism of hyperbaric oxygenation(HBO) therapy for perennial allergic rhinitis.Methods The immune indexes of rat and mouse were measured after 5 or 10 days under pressure of 0.25 MPa in HBO chamber for 2 hrs daily.At the same time,the curative effects of 30 cases suffered from perennial allergic rhinitis were evaluated after 20 days under HBO chamber with 0.2 MPa to inhale pure oxygen for 2 hrs/per day.Results After HBO treatment,it was found that the passive skin allergic reaction in homozygous rats and heterologous mice(ears for test) all suppressed(P＜0.01)compared with the control group,the number of mase cells degranulated by casein in abdominal cavity of mice was markedly decreased(P＜0.01).On clinical observation,the near effects concerning symptoms and signs in 30 cases after HBO were 98.7%;follow-up 3 years,the effect was 73.7%.Conclusion The study shows that the HBO has marked suppressive effect for allergic reaction of experimental animals,so,it is an effective,new and non-side-effect therapy for perennial allergic rhinits.
