Advances in the diagnosis and treatment of high-flow priapism
High-flow priapism(HFP)is a rare type of priapism, mainly including traumatic HFP,neurogenic HFP and post-shunting HFP,of which the traumatic is the main type of HFP.The etiology of HFP is mainly related to various kinds of injuries such as trauma and spinal cord injury, and its pathogenesis is arterio-cavernosal fistula formation.Because HFP does not lead to ischemia and hypoxia, conservative treatment is preferred.Interventional embolization should be performed promptly when conservative treatment is ineffective.Surgical treatment should be performed when conservative treatment is ineffective or repeated interventional embolization fails to relieve symptoms.Patients with HFP generally have a better prognosis, and most of them can preserve erectile function.
