The Current Situation,Challenges, and Strategies for Developing Digital Literacy Among African Women from an Empowerment Perspective:An In-Depth Interview Study of 24 African Female Students in China
Exploring the development of digital literacy among African women and analyzing how to enhance their ability to use digital technology within the realistic resource conditions is of great practical significance for promoting the development of digital transformation in Africa.Through in-depth interviews with 24 African female students in China, this study examines, from an empowerment perspective, various aspects of African women's digital capabilities, including digital information access and evaluation, digital communication and expression, access to digital education and training, digital transactions, and digital employment and entrepreneurship. The findings indicate that improving women's digital literacy still faces challenges, such as limited digital access, inadequate infrastructure support, poverty's impact on digital use,low digital literacy skills, and cultural norms restricting digital participation.Addressing these issues requires strategies, such as poverty reduction to improve material conditions, strengthening infrastructure support, leveraging cultural knowledge for empowerment, enhancing capacity through literacy training, and fostering an environment of progressive gender norms to create favorable conditions for improving African women's digital literacy.
