Exploration on the Application of Balanced Assignment System for Coding Tasks on the Front Page of Inpatient Medical Records
Objectives This study aims to explore the idea of balanced allocation of coding tasks on the front page of inpatient medical records and solve problems such as uneven allocation of coding tasks, delayed coding time of medical records, and low coding efficiency. Methods The front pages of 27644 inpatient medical record discharged from July 1,2022 to July 31,2022 were collected as the control group. After establishing a stable system for balanced assignment of inpatient medical record coding tasks, front pages of 22694 inpatient medical record discharged from February 1,2023 to February 28,2023 were collected as the balanced allocation group. The distribution of the number of medical records, the total number of days of medical record coding, and the average number of days of medical record coding between the two groups were compared. Results After the implementation of the balanced assignment system of inpatient medical record coding tasks, the proportion range of medical record numbers was adjusted from 5.93%-8.89%to 8.23%-8.28%,and the coefficient of variation decreased from 0.105 to 0.003.The average consumption days of each coder have significantly changed, with a decrease range of 1.97-4.64 days and a percentage reduction range of 31.14%-58.80%.Additionally,the average discharge coding time decreased from 6.62 days to 3.42 days, and these changes were statistically significant. Conclusions The system for balanced assignment of inpatient medical record coding tasks not only makes the task allocation more even but also shortens the waiting time before coding.Additionally, the coding efficiency and level have been significantly improved.
