Analysis of Influencing Factors on Average Length of Stay of Patients undergoing Surgery in Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of a Hospital
Objectives To understand the influencing factors of the average length of stay of patients undergoing surgery in orthopedics and traumatology department, and explore targeted management measures. Methods A retrospective study was carried out to extract the medical records of patients discharged from the department of orthopedics and traumatology during January 1st,2018 to December 31st,2022 from the electronic medical record system of a top-three hospital. The average length of stay was statistically described and analyzed by EXCEL2016 and SPSS26.0.Results From 2018 to 2022,the number of cases of surgery in the Department of Orthopedics increased year by year, with a total of 25041 cases. The length of stay in hospital was positively skewed(Cs=4.066,P<0.001),the median was 12.0 days, and the length of stay from 6 days to 10 days was the largest(31.0%).The length of stay showed a decreasing trend with the increase of years(c2=66.978,P<0.001).The cumulative component ratio of the top ten diseases in traumatological surgery patients was 44.8%.Kruskal-Wallis H test indicated that the length of hospital stay of patients with different diseases was statistically different(H=5308.791,P<0.001).The H rank sum test results of Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis suggested that gender, age, whether to transfer to another department, whether to have day surgery, preoperative waiting days and the number of discharge diagnoses had an impact on the length of hospital stay of orthopedics surgery patients(P<0.001).Conclusions Gender, age, whether to transfer to another department, whether to have day surgery, preoperative waiting days, number of discharge diagnoses and main discharge diagnoses were the influencing factors of the average length of stay of patients in the department of orthopedics and traumatology surgery.Hospitals should formulate targeted intervention measures according to the types of influencing factors,so as to achieve the purpose of reasonably shortening the average length of stay.
