Analysis and Reflection on the Effectiveness of Online Teaching of "Clinical Immunology" for International Medical Students during the COVID-19 Epidemic
Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of online teaching of"Clinical Immunology"for undergraduates of clinical medicine in the International College of a university during the COVID-19 epidemic.Methods From April 1st,2020 to June 30th,2020,90 undergraduate students of the class of 2016 majoring in clinical medicine in the International College of a university were selected as the research objects to conduct an online teaching investigation and analysis from the aspects of teaching performance,teacher and student evaluation.Statistical software SPSS 25.0 was used for data analysis.For normally distributed data,the mean±standard deviation is used to describe.Results The average total score for the final exam this semester was 73.5±14.2,with students from the Indian Peninsula scoring the lowest average score(70.0±14.7).The number of failed students was 13(14.4%),of whom 12(92.3%)were from the Indian Peninsula.Twenty-one people(23.3%)scored between 60 and 69,25 people(27.8%)scored between 70and 79,15 people(16.7%)scored between 80 and 89,and 16 people(17.8%)with 90 scores or above(17.8%).According to the evaluation results of the teachers on the quality of the paper,17(18.9%)were"poor",of which 16(16/17,94.1%)were from the Indian Peninsula;35 were"fair"(38.9%),25 were"good"(27.8%),and 13 were"excellent"(14.4%).The student satisfaction rate for online teaching was 88.9%,and 66.7%of the students put forward their opinions or suggestions as followed:increase interactive links(52.2%),such as using live broadcast software to carry out live lectures(11.1%),and realize real-time communication between students and teachers,and answering questions through chat software(4.4%),make learning tasks and discuss in groups(2.2%),and then improve courseware content(30.0%),such as adding clinical real cases(14.4%),recommending self-study textbooks and related literature to facilitate self-study reading(5.5%),adding quizzes after chapters(11.1%),and setting up an evaluation system for teachers(2.2%).Conclusion During the epidemic prevention and control period,the English online teaching mode of"Clinical Immunology"for foreign students in our school was suitable for the needs of teaching activities in special periods.Students were satisfied with the overall teaching effect,but the online teaching mode still needed to be further improved.
