Discussion on the Relationship Between Operative Complications and Unplanned Reoperation in a Tertiary Hospital
Objectives This study aims to analyze the distribution characteristics of surgical complications and unplanned reoperations in a tertiary hospital to provide a reference for continuously improving perioperative quality and ensuring medical safety. Methods Surgical complications that occurred in a tertiary hospital from January 1,2022 to December 31,2022 were retrospectively analyzed, including the departments where surgical complications occurred, surgical complications, unplanned re-operations,etc.Results A total of 12,651 surgeries were performed, and 203 surgical complications occurred, with an overall incidence rate of 1.60%.There were 60 cases of unplanned reoperation, and the overall incidence rate was 4.74‰.The top five departments in terms of incidence of surgical complications were thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedics, and hepatobiliary surgery departments. The top five types of surgical complications in terms of composition ratio were deep vein thrombosis, incision infection, sepsis, pulmonary infection, implant complications, and postoperative bleeding.Through Spearman statistical analysis, there was a positive linear correlation between the incidence of surgical complications and the rate of unplanned reoperation(rs=0.73),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions There are many surgical complications in thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedics, etc. The most common types include deep vein thrombosis, incision infection, sepsis, pulmonary infection, implant complications, and postoperative bleeding.Surgical complications affect the occurrence of unplanned reoperation to a certain extent.
