Analysis of Main Diagnoses of Patients Discharged from a Hospital from 2015 to 2022
Objectives This study aims to analyze the changes in the main diagnoses of discharged patients from a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou to provide a reference for hospital management and resource allocation. Methods A retrospective study was conducted to obtain the annual number of inpatients,gender,age,in-hospital death, total hospitalization cost, the average length of stay, type of medical insurance, main diagnosis of discharged diseases, and other clinical indicators from the medical record system of a hospital from January 1,2015 to December 31,2022.Clinical indicators were compared using nonparametric tests and chi-square tests. Results There were statistical differences between the annual group comparisons in the number of hospitalizations, length of hospitalization, hospitalization expenses, gender, age, type of medical insurance, and number of discharge diagnoses(P=0.000).There was a statistical difference between the groups in the number of main discharge diagnoses over the years(P=0.000).Among them, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and maintenance treatment for the largest number of malignant tumors increased from 5729 cases in 2015 to 10,014 cases in 2022,but there was no statistical difference in the proportions(P=0.170).Comparing 2015 and 2022,except for the number of in-hospital deaths(1.2%VS 1.1%,P=0.073),there were statistical differences between the other index groups(P=0.000).Conclusions Various factors, including regional differences, hospital levels, policies, and economic conditions, can affect changes in the number of primary discharge diagnoses. The number of malignant tumor-related diagnoses has increased significantly, but the proportion of each diagnosis in the total has not changed significantly.
