Statistical Analysis of 997 Death Cases within 24 Hours of Admission
Objectives This study aims to analyze the characteristics of death cases within 24 hours of admission to a certain hospital to provide a reference for improving medical quality. Methods The annual case fatality rate, age, gender, admission route, risk classification, and cause of death of patients who died within 24 hours of admission to a hospital were analyzed for the period from January 1,2018,to December 31,2022.Results Between 2018 and 2022,the mortality rate within 24 hours of admission was 0.15%,comprising 638 male patients and 359 female patients, resulting in a male-to-female ratio of 1.78:1.The highest case fatality rate was in the group aged 70-79.Patients who died within 24 hours of admission were predominantly admitted to the emergency room, accounting for 62.39%of cases. The death risk classification was predominantly high-risk,representing 65.4%of cases. The top three main causes of death were circulatory system diseases(46.04%),injuries,poisoning and certain other consequences of external causes(13.94%),and respiratory system diseases(11.74%).Conclusions Patients aged 60 and above are at a higher risk of death within 24 hours of admission. The main causes of death within this timeframe include cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, trauma, poisoning, and respiratory diseases, which should be given particular attention. There are quality and safety risks associated with low-risk death cases and cases admitted through outpatient services, highlighting the need for strengthened management and control measures.
