Clinical Characteristics Analysis of 96 Children with Acute Drug Poisoning in PICU
Objective To analyze the characteristics and causes of acute drug poisoning in children intensive care unit(PICU)at a Three A and Tertiary Hospital in Shanghai,and explore corresponding preventive measures.Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 96 children with acute drug poisoning admitted to the PICU from July 1st,2013 to June 30th,2023,including age,gender,date of onset,type and proportion of poisoning,and causes of poisoning.Results The incidence of drug poisoning events in children with acute drug poisoning admitted had shown a significant upward trend in the past 5 years(July 1st,2018 to June 30th,2023).Among the 96 pediatric patients,there were 18 males(18.75%)and 78 females(81.25%),with a gender ratio of 1:4.33.The age group of 13 to 18 years old had the highest incidence of the disease,with 67 cases accounting for 69.79%.The main types of toxic drugs were psychotropic drugs(67.71%).The main cause of poisoning was medication suicide(86.46%),with 83 cases,mostly female patients aged 7 to 18.Among them,50.60%of patients had a history of depression.Conclusions In recent years,the incidence of acute drug poisoning in children had been on the rise.Adolescent female children were more common,with drug suicide being the most common cause.Society and families should pay special attention to the physical and mental health of children in this age group,provide psychological counseling and treatment,and strengthen prevention.
