Analysis of Outpatient Volume of Neurosurgery Department of a Tertiary Hospital from 2018 to 2022
Objectives By analyzing the changing trend and disease composition of neurosurgery outpatient visits in a tertiary hospital, this study aims to provide a reference for hospital management. Methods The statistical data of outpatient volume of neurosurgery department of a certain hospital from 2018 to 2022 were collected. The 2020 data is not comparable due to the impact of the public health incident. Therefore, excluding the data of this year,a descriptive analysis of the collected data was performed. The number of cases, relative comparison, development speed, growth rate, seasonal index, etc.were used to analyze the outpatient volume of neurosurgery and the types of diseases treated in the outpatient clinic. Results The annual outpatient volume of the neurosurgery department of a certain hospital increased from 46,281 in 2018 to 66,905 in 2022,with a cumulative increase of 20,624,and a growth rate of 44.56%.The highest seasonal index was in the third quarter and the lowest was in the first quarter. The top six diseases in neurosurgery outpatient visits were cerebrovascular disease(16.26%),cervical spondylosis(4.54%),postoperative follow-up examination(4.52%),intracranial space-occupying lesions(4.10%),lumbar spondylosis(4.01%),and aneurysm(3.81%).The proportion of cervical spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis increased with the years. Conclusions The number of outpatient visits decreases in the first quarter, while the number of medical visits reaches a peak in the third quarter. The allocation and arrangement of human, financial and material resources should be done considering seasonal characteristics. The patients with cervical spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis tend to be younger.Hospitals and departments should coordinate with changes in outpatient volume for these diseases, increase corresponding configurations and number of appointments, and physicians should strengthen popular science education and move the checkpoints forward.
