Analysis of Factors Influencing Hospitalization Expenses in 2,628 Patients Undergoing Lower Extremity Varicose Vein Surgery
Objectives This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the hospitalization cost of patients with lower extremity varicose vein surgery,so as to provide references for the proper reduction of medical expenses. Methods Patients who underwent varicose vein surgery in a tertiary general hospital from January 1,2021 to December 31,2023 were selected.Nonparametric tests, univariate analysis and multiple linear regression were used to explore the influencing factors of hospitalization expenses. Results Among 2,628 patients with lower extremity varicose vein surgery,1,180 were males(44.90%)and 1,448 were females(55.10%).Age ranged from 19 to 86 years old, with an average age of 56.12±10.75 years old and a median age of 57 years old.The average length of hospital stay was 2.79±2.49 days, with a median of 2 days. The average cost of inpatients was 12,191.74 yuan, the median was 12,909.83 yuan, and the interquartile range was 2,052.76 yuan.Diagnostic costs accounted for the highest proportion,at 57.99%.The cost of hospitalization was affected by age, length of stay, outcome, number of concomitant diseases and disease stage. The number and stage of concomitant symptoms were the direct and main influencing factors, with effect sizes of 0.324 and 0.186.Gender,marriage and age were the indirect influencing factors. Conclusions The hospitalization cost of patients with lower extremity varicose vein surgery is mainly affected by the number and stage of concomitant symptoms.Controlling complications and comorbidities and initiating treatment as early as possible can effectively reduce the hospitalization costs of patients undergoing varicose vein surgery for lower limbs.
