Case Analysis of ICD-10 Coding for Secondary Hypertension
Secondary hypertension is high blood pressure caused by an identifiable disease.Except for pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome,all others are classified under I15,with subcategories based on etiology.Common types of secondary hypertension include renal parenchymal(I15.0),renal vascular diseases(I15.1),primary aldosteronism hypertension(I15.2),pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma hypertension(I15.2),Cushing's syndrome hypertension(I15.2),and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome hypertension(I15.8).Through case studies,this study summarized the coding classification methods for secondary hypertension and its causes and analyzed the coding challenges and common errors related to secondary hypertension.Coders need to be proficient in mastering the coding classification rules,understand the mechanisms of secondary hypertension,and combine this knowledge with the diagnosis and treatment process to achieve accurate coding.
