Analysis of Disease Composition of Geriatric Inpatients in a Tertiary Hospital in Nanjing
Objectives This study aims to analyze the disease composition and distribution characteristics of elderly hospitalized patients to provide data support for optimizing medical services for elderly patients.Methods The front-page data of hospitalized patients aged 60 years and above in a tertiary hospital in Nanjing from January 1,2019 to December 31,2023 were retrospectively analyzed.The top ten disease compositions were statistically analyzed,and the distribution and ranking changes of diseases across different years,genders,and ages were examined.Results A total of 164,610 cases of elderly inpatients were included.The composition of the top 10 diseases remained stable overall.Other medical care accounted for 13.8%,ranking first,followed by transient ischemic attack,cerebral infarction,other cerebrovascular diseases and chronic ischemic heart diseases.The proportion of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was higher in men,while the proportion of type 2 diabetes and cholelithiasis was higher in women.As age increases,the ranking of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases tended to stabilize or rise,while the proportion of other diseases decreased.Conclusions The incidence of chronic diseases among elderly patients is high,and there are differences in the main diseases among patients of different genders and age groups,with a particularly high prevalence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases among the elderly.Medical resources should be allocated rationally.
