Analysis of Epidemiological Characteristics of Patients with Ocular Trauma in a Tertiary Hospital in Wuhan from 2019 to 2023
Objectives This study aims to retrospectively analyze the epidemiological characteristics of inpatients with ocular trauma in a tertiary hospital to provide a reference for the effective prevention of ocular trauma.Methods The electronic medical records of 402 patients admitted to the hospital for ocular trauma from January 1,2019 to December 31,2023 were extracted.A comprehensive analysis was conducted based on gender,age,occupation,cause of injury,type of eye injury,and treatment status.Results The proportion of male patients(83.08%)was significantly higher than that of female patients(16.92%).The largest number of cases occurred in the 40-59 age group(39.55%).Workers accounted for the highest proportion of injuries(36.39%),and there were significant differences among different ages,occupations and types of injuries.Blunt trauma was the most common type of eye injury(37.83%).According to the ICD-10 main diagnosis ranking,ocular laceration without intraocular tissue loss or absence(S05.3)had the largest number of cases(32.61%),and corneal laceration suture(11.51)was the most(17.23%)according to ICD-9-CM-3.The cure rate of patients was 61.45%,and the blindness rate was 32.53%.There was a significant difference between the time of consultation and visual blindness grade.Conclusions Patients with eye injuries are mainly young and middle-aged men,and most of them are caused by accidents at work.The proportion of elderly patients has increased,and there are differences in injury types among different ages and occupations.Timely treatment can recover part of the vision,the most effective way to prevent eye trauma is prevention.
