Overview of Germplasm Resources of Shitou Goose and Suggestions for Protection,Development and Utilization
Shitou goose is native to Xilou Village,Fubin Town,Raoping County,Chaozhou City,Guangdong Province,China.It is one of the four major local grey feather goose species in Guangdong Province,the largest goose species in China and one of the largest goose species in the world,with unique physical characteristics and high economic value.This paper introduced the breed characteristics of Shitou geese,the history of breed formation and diet culture,the status quo of breed protection and utilization,an-alyzed the problems such as breed purity declining and lack of unified breeding and management standards,and put forward rele-vant suggestions on the protection and development of breed resources,in order to promote the protection and development and uti-lization of Shitou goose germplasm resources.
