Study on Quantitative Detection Method of Structural Color of Domestic Chicken Feathers
The structural color of domestic chicken feathers is a trait with ornamental and economic values. The aim of this study is to propose a systematic, objective, and quantitative detection methods for structural color of domestic chicken feathers. We studied 753 females of Jingmen Black Plumage Blue-shell layer for establishing the picture acquirement method and selecting the quantita-tive parameters. The heritability was estimated by the mixed family correlation method within families. The results show that the"a"value and"b"value in the Lab color space can be used to quantify the structure color.Compared with the saddle and shoulder feathers, the optical parameters of the secondary wing bar are the most relevant to the general degree of whole-body structural color. The"a"value of the secondary wing bar has a medium heritability, the"b"value has a high heritability and the degree of variation is smaller. It can be seen that the"b"value of the secondary wing bar may be more suitable as a selection target for breeding im-provement.It can quantify the structural color of chicken feathers, and can be used in breeding practice to achieve characteristic breeding of structural color.
