Hereford cattle have excellent characteristics such as early maturity,acceptance to rough feeding,and high meat produc-tion rate. At present,a certain scale of Hereford cattle has been formed in China. Strengthening the in-depth understanding of the characteristics and breeding value of Hereford cattle will help improve the utilization of this breed.This article introduces in detail the breeding history and distribution status of Hereford cattle,systematically expounds the progress of production performance,bio-logical characteristics and genetic resource exploration,and puts forward suggestions on hybridization based on the current status of our country,aiming to provide a reference for improving the comprehensive utilization efficiency of Hereford cattle.
