Livestock and poultry genetic resources constitute a crucial component of biodiversity,serving as the material foundation for innovation in animal husbandry technology and the development of modern breed industries.They are also strategic resources for ensuring the supply of important livestock products for the country.This article introduces the characteristics and current status of protection and utilization of seven livestock and poultry genetic resource with local characteristics in Huaihua City,Hunan Province.It analyzes existing issues such as small population size,industrial layout to be optimized,low degree of development and utilization,and insufficient brand effect leadership.Development suggestions are proposed,including strengthening policy support,enhancing conservation capabilities,optimizing industrial layout,strengthening technological support,and increasing publicity ef-forts.The aim is to provide practical references for the protection and utilization of livestock and poultry genetic resources in the lo-cal area and other regions,and to promote the development of local livestock and poultry breed industries.
