The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between urban land use change and the state of social metabolism under the perspective of environmental economy.Method of material flow analysis was employed to establish a metabolism accounting frame, which based on the logical relationship analysis and data tracking and collection among different social segments. It allows for the understanding of the material flow characteristics and resource use efficiency. And meanwhile, method of canonical correlation analysis was employed to establish an effect model to quantify the metabolism effect through the vector projection. The results indicate that 1) different level of increasing construction land can increase the metabolism amount in different degree; 2) efficiency of the urban industry land can influence the intensity and efficiency of the social metabolism. Conclusion of this study shows that quantity and efficiency of urban land has influenced the law of social metabolism, which would provide effective method for city planning and management government during the process of urbanization.
