The Ecological Image of Chinese Oil and Gas Corporations in the Sustainability Development Reports:A Corpus-Based Study
This paper, working within the theoretical framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics and Fairclough's three-dimensional discourse analysis model, analyzes the ecological linguistic features in the sustainability development reports of Chinese oil and gas corporations, and investigates their ecological image constructed by high-frequency nouns and verbs, keywords as well as the collocations of"energy"and"emission*".The research shows that Chinese oil and gas corporations operate on the environmental-friendly ideas including energy saving, emission reduction, and new energy development. In practice, these corporations are pragmatic, reinforcing positive environmental behavior and fulfilling environmental responsibility. It is argued that the ecological image of the corporations is attributed to several social-cultural factors, such as the present situation of the global energy, the global and China's environmental policies, corporate culture and sustainability reporting guidelines.
