Foreign Language Education from the Perspective of Exchanges and Mutual Learning Among Different Civilizations
China's foreign language education has been greatly impacted by the country's development.China's reform and opening-up,launched in 1978,has brought about an unprecedented boom of English teaching and learning. As the general situation at home and abroad is undergoing fundamental changes, foreign language education should keep pace with the times, and develop under the guideline of"exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations".This paper examines China's foreign language education from the perspective of exchanges and mutual learning, and elucidates the significance of English education. The author of the paper proposes that English teaching in basic education should be guided by the idea of"exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations";college foreign language education should enhance students'ability to use foreign languages and develop their intercultural leadership competence;foreign literature and language discipline should improve scholarly work, and enter the broad fields of civilizations.Research and practice in China's foreign language education should shift from one-way borrowing to two-way mutual learning, constructing a knowledge system of foreign language education with Chinese characteristics, and telling the world how Chinese educators solve problems of common concern.
